Consideration of the case of possible embezzlement of almost 4 million hryvnias allocated for the repair of the children’s camp “Start” in Lviv is actually blocked.
Another court hearing in the Frankivsk district court did not take place due to the absence of participants in the process. This is not the first case of postponement.
The case involves officials of the education sector who worked during the period of Andrei Sadov’s leadership of the city, as well as contracting organisations.
Lawyer Andrei Petryshyn said in a conversation with journalists that, according to the investigation materials, the budget funds could have been used through schemes with overestimation of the cost of works and execution of fictitious acts.
He also noted that in some cases the money may have been used to purchase property – in particular real estate and vehicles.
Petrishin is critical of the process, pointing to the risk of deliberate delay. According to him, if the statute of limitations expires, even proven facts of violations may not lead to punishment.
He drew particular attention to the absence of a representative of the City Council in court, who should have been defending the interests of the community.
A motion has been filed for online broadcasting of the proceedings to increase the transparency of the process.
